You can't help but be happy when sitting on Velma's Cafe patio

Updated: Aug 23, 2019

I've been to Velma's Cafe twice now and both times I thoroughly enjoyed the food! It is located in an older building on a busy street in Southgate, CA. If you're not paying attention you'd easily pass it by. There is street only parking and limited indoor seating, but its so worth it! Protip: ask for seating on the patio. There are three tables with a view of their a gorgeous mural. There are a few entree's, but the majority of the menu is "small bites" or tapas style food you can share. Which I loved because the prices are so reasonable, it allows you to try more! The food and presentation are amazing. Check out their Instagram @velmascafe its definitely the "lick your phone" kind of food people want and I don't blame them. See below for some of the delicious goodies that I've had on my recent visits!

Let's start with their tacos. All the tortillas are fresh made. Nothing comes in a bag. The fish tacos are crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside. There's a large portion of fish in each taco and the crunch from the red cabbage gives it that needed texture. These are soooo good.

Pictured is the chicken and pulled pork tacos. All are garnished with lettuce, tomatoes and cotija cheese. The meat is tender and the fresh tortillas are so good. These tacos have so much flavor!

These are the pulled pork Nachos. Layered with cheese, tomatoes, radish, jalapenos, cilantro, and protein. Such a huge portion for $7!!!

Vegetarians and Vegans unite, because Velma's hasn't forgotten about you! They have a large amount of options that are just as good if not better than the protein menu items. Pictured is the Jamaica Nachos. Steaped and sauteed Jamaica layered top of thier nacho platter. Not only gorgeous but beautiful!

These are the chicken and pulled pork quesadillas. I cannot stress how amazing these little gems are. They are so cheesy and meaty. You get a good bite of cheese and meat in every bite! Each quesadilla is only $2!!!!

And the best for last. My most favorite. The empanada's. I had the beef birria. It was amazing. Flakey on the outside and tender beef birria on the inside. Its served with the most amazing chipotle aioli. These are a must get at 2 for $4!

As you can see, the food is beautiful and from first hand experience its delicious. If you're looking for a great value, great service and a great meal stop by Velma's Cafe. You won't regret it. I'll be back.
