Do you know what a Tlayudala is?
Tlayuda, pronounced Tla-you-dah is located right off Santa Monica Blvd and the 101 Freeway, this family owned restaurant has some serious swag. Its small and the parking is horrendous, but it’s soooo worth it. The dining area is painted the most beautiful, bold, cobalt blue and features local artists throughout the restaurant. There’s even a painted mural with whimsical Oaxacan creatures.
They specialize in Oaxacan style food. But really, it’s just good, fresh home cooked meals that you feel like your Auntie or Grandmother made for you. Everything is fresh and made to order. You may have to wait a minute if come during the rush, but you won’t regret it. The house special is of course the Tlayuda. They serve it vegetarian, with a choice of meat or go all in with the Classic Supreme Tlayuda which has everything on it. It included the most wonderful pork chorizo. It’s so flavorful without being overly greasy. Even the Guacamole is awesome! A must try!
