I'll have bone marrow any day at The Recess Room

Located in the heart of Fountain Valley, CA The Recess Room bring a bit of LA to Orange County. The restaurant itself has got a super industrial feeling with various antiques and decor, dark walls and ambient lighting. The design is quite comfortable and very well put together. Living in LA the past six years I would have easily pictured this off of Hollywood and Vine.
The menu is described as American Tapas. Everything is meant to be shared. I would definitely suggest 2 per person depending on which part of the menu you're ordering off of. I was lucky enough to try 3 items and I didn't share them with anyone. I had a good amount of left overs which was enough for a filling lunch the next day.
The restaurant is owned by 5 childhood friends. They grew up, started their careers and now have come back together to share their love for food in their hometown. Smart guys, they are definitely showing that they know what they are doing with The Recess Room. I very much enjoyed my evening here. My waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and thought of all the little things. She boxed my food up, added in extra sauces without me having to ask, kept my drinks refilled and brought plenty of napkins and silverware before I needed it. Each and every item was plated with thoughtful details including the cocktail. The ice cube has a big R embedded and had shaved nutmeg over the top. Who has time to shave nutmeg? The Recess Room does. The smaller plates range from $9-$18 and the larger plates are $12-$30. They have even larger portions such as the Sou Vide pigs head and the Tomahawk for $55-$85. Someone on a budget would probably only come here for special occasssions, but they do have an excellent happy hour with some very affordable smaller plates for only $6. I'll definitely be back. Definitely.
