Mickey's Italian Delicatessen
Three generations old, Mickeys Deli has been a staple of Hermosa Beach for the last 64 years. After serving his country during the Korean war, Michael Angelo Mance, nicknamed "Mickey", came home with the dream of opening his own beach side deli and pizzeria. At the age of 22, he saved $2000 and took a small loan from his father to open his deli in 1953. The spot quickly became a favorite among local surfers that loved Mickey's "sauce sandwich". It was not only delicious but affordable. The spot quickly became extremely popular within the south bay, being so close and delicious. Even though Mickey passed away in 2001, his son Paul continued to carry on the family's traditions. Now, the 3rd generation of Mance men are learning the business. Paul's son Mickey is now learning the ropes and has brought automation and social media to the table.
Along with some minor remodeling, the store has gotten new display cases. Do beware that there is limited seating. Lets remember this is a deli and not fine dining. There is however, a large communal table and a few bistro tables in front, but it can get really hot in the summer, I would definitely suggest getting take out or having it delivered. It would be the perfect for a pick up for a beach picnic or outdoor summer concert.
The menu is quite extensive. Ranging from gourmet pizzas to delicious sandwiches. They have quite an assortment of cold salads too. Check out the pesto pasta salad. Soo good. The sandwiches are huge. Definitely should share if on the moderately hungry side. As for the pizza, it’s a medium, thin crust, super cheesy and all the ingredients are extremely fresh. BONUS TIP, They use real cheese here folks! Its not the junk you may find in some of those other chained pizza places.
It was a darn good meal and I can’t wait to come back to try the meatball and the chicken parmesan sandwiches.
